Juan-Carlos “J.C.” Planas

Drawing on more than 15 years of public service experience, Juan-Carlos “J.C.” Planas counsels clients on a broad array of legal issues to include ethics and elections law, local governmental operations and State regulatory matters. While working as a Legislative Aid in the State Capitol in Tallahassee, he received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Florida State University in 1993. J.C. then came back to Miami to work with the Miami-Dade County Commission for two years before entering the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida where he received his J.D. in 1998.

After more than 3 years as an Assistant State Attorney for the 11th Circuit, Planas was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2002 for District 115 serving Westchester, East Kendall and the cities of Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay. As a former State Prosecutor, he was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and Chair of the Public Safety Committee during his time in Tallahassee.

J.C. joined Kurkin Forehand Brandes in 2008 during the time he was appointed as lead counsel for the Miami-Dade chapter of the Republican National Lawyers Association during the 2008 Presidential Election. Since then, Planas has represented several State and Local Candidates on numerous election issues, more recently as Attorney and Counsel for the campaign of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

J.C. is a former member of the Miami-Dade Children’s Trust, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Fragile X Foundation.
